The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, at a home on Manhasset Trail in Ridge, said the Suffolk County Police.
During the fire, one of the residents, Patricia Slawinski, suffered burns to 40 percent of her body and remains in intensive care fighting for her life, said Lin Richburg.
Two cats were able to escape, and one perished. The dog, a Labradane named Jasmine, disappeared and hasn't been seen since the fire.
Richburg, who bought the dog for Slawinski, said she was very close to the dog and he is doing everything he can to find the lost 1-year-old 85-pound pup.
"I put up posters, walked for miles, and combed the woods but haven't found the dog," he said.
He's also talked to the police and with firefighters hoping someone knows what happened to the beloved pet.
"If Patricia makes it through this and the dog is gone I don't know if she can survive," Richburg said.
Richburg believes that someone knows where the dog is and hopes that a good-hearted person will recognize Jasmine and call him so he can bring her home.
"I'm offering a reward to get Jasmine back for Patricia," he said. "I'm just praying I find her."
To report a sighting of Jasmine, or if anyone knows where she is, call Richburg at 631-855-5916.
